The wine, not the label.
While being at a party awhile ago, my friend asked his boyfriend something along the lines of: 'wasn't there just one Pride flag? What's going on with all these colors?' He was talking about some cute magnets on the fridge door that had several LGBTQ+ flags.
The answer I gave was: representation.
And this may be true even though we don’t understand the terms used by some people to refer to themselves or when we are not those specific colors of the rainbow, we should be aware of what they mean and understand that they represent people just like us.
It’s not that there are more letters in the acronym, it’s that more people know who they are. We may not be that specific letter in the LGBTQ+ umbrella , nor interested in pursuing some specific kind of relationship and yet we can be aware of the term. Because one should never say never.
Who knows? You may be Poly and don’t know it…

As we understand gender and gender identity and sexuality, our flag will change to be more inclusive and there's nothing wrong with more inlcusivity.

Big says,
ReplyDeleteA writer friend explained that to me several months ago when I saw someone on a street corner waving a flag that was (in my knowledge) LGBTQ...but not. Welcoming them under the umbrella is what we should be about.

The underlying characteristic is queerness and that's all that's needed to be a member of our club!

ReplyDeletePeople and relationships are complicated. As we gain more knowledge (science!) we gain more understanding of each other. The brain and our bodies lead us to where we need to be. Like the universe, our community continues to expand.

Inclusivity and representation are what matters
