Oh, The Glamorous Monique....!
Did you know that few Trans women reach their seventies?
That is why this issue of Nowness with Monique Allen is so interesting, as Dave would say. The thing is, we do not know a lot of Trans elders the same way we know some of their Gay and Lesbian counterparts. We hear from plenty of Gay men and Lesbian women in their seventies and eighties, but very few Trans women are interviewed at that age.
We may not know much about her, but Monique is well known in many circles. She still shakes up the clubs and has been featured in Botched, the plastic surgery series where people with serious plastic surgery addictions go to try and reverse some of the effects of years of badly done plastic surgery jobs.
I like how Glamorous Monique talks quite frankly about plastic surgery, body dysphoria, age, relationships and life in general. For someone who's been in the scene for more than forty years, life itself is an achievement.

I think I'd agree with her about the clubs, back then it was poppers and alcohol, today it's a lot of other things. I think she's stuck in the 80s; decor like that used to be popular back then. I suspect there are a lot more trans elders out there than you might think, they just prefer being homebodies instead of hitting the clubs.
