Oh. Representation.
We all talk about it and we all root for it. But do we see it often? This video called my attention, one, because INTO I believe was that effort of Grindr to get more 'inclusive' after the 'no fats, no fems, no asians' flap. And two, I thought it had disappeared? Or was that THEM?

But anyway, to the point of representation: we need more of it. Take the case of Joaquin and Cristhian. Starting with the way they identify themselves to the way they look, I think they pretty much cover several bases. Out, proud, Latinx men are good to find. Actually finding out and proud men of color is always a plus.

In gay media in America, we tend to find mostly white, cisgender men represented and men of color usually do not appear up and front. Oh, even the main porn studios have their 'Noir' or 'BiLatinMen' sections, but they're very niche. Whiteness is perceived as the ultimate prize and it tends to occupy the imagination of queer men of color by default. Men with taut bodies, wide shoulders, flat stomachs and most importantly, white, have become the ideal to achieve or desire.

Watching and listening to men of color describe themselves and their lives while not striving for that ideal that seems entrenched in gay culture is quite refreshing. In Grindr, Tumblr, in gay bars, in gyms, white men seem to dominate the culture. I think we need more representation of *other* types of bodies and *other* backgrounds. And here's my little contribution.

Now tell me that Joaquin and Cristhian are not absolutely adorable together.

  1. You’re right, they are adorable and they fit like hand in glove. I think another thing about queer men of color is that they are more accepting of others. I know my time on Grindr I met a few men of color that reached out to me even though my bio indicated that I didn’t have that gym body that seems to be the prize of many of the white men.

So put the blinders on. Take a chance, you may find that someone special, who sends tingles down your spine and up your dick. It can work.

  2. Sometimes we, the LGBTQ community, think we're all that, but we still need to work on understanding that we come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, affects and whatever, and even if someone doesn't fit into "our" type, we shouldn't diminish them.

  3. I love seeing any gay couples in love and being affected with each other. Also for myself, I often think that I'm lucky in the diverse range of men that I find attractive. This allows me to crash and burn at meeting men of all types... lol. Actually it's true :( but still funny so you can laugh at my pain.
