Kiss me, Karl!
I think Alvin's been on this blog before, but as soon as I heard he'd revamped the place, I had to post him again. Duh. I's always great to see what other people have done in their place so you can apply it to your own situation. Because every man's (and woman's) house is their castle, right?
I have been thinking about moving stuff around in my place. This pandemic and working from home have made me reconsider my space many times. During the warmer months I have been able to escape to my garden and be outside a little bit more. But Fall is almost here and then Winter will pounce and I won't be able to go outside and putter in the garden. So I have to think about ways to make my space 'new'. And then, there was Alvin.
I love, love, love! that neon sign. I would seriously consider installing something like that in my house. It's sculptural and chic. I also loved those plates and the idea of making the artwork I have a centerpiece in the space. Same with what he calls 'unexpected items'. I have some things still in boxes in my storage that I could swap or bring to my basement garden apartment.
With just a few touches, his place looks totally different! He transformed a white box (he lives in an apartment in New York, so yeah) into a welcoming, vibrant, warm space full of personality and flavor. Now, I don't have his budget (I'm more Ikea than West Elm) but I think I'm gonna take some time to move things around and see what comes out of it. After all, I have everything to enjoy and nothing to lose.
XOXO
I love neon signs too!
ReplyDeleteOMG. Obsessed.
DeleteI would like to have one but the logistics are kind of daunting.
Maybe when I have my own house.
XOXO
Interesting. I'm probably the only who's not going to like the neon sign.
ReplyDeleteBut of course, Dave.
DeleteWe were kind of expecting that...
XOXO
In a basement space with white walls a neon light would work... although it could be overpowering. I love neon. Vibrancy can inspire activity... or anxiety and edginess. As for Karl. Give me some of him! I would canoodle his poodle all day. Spank his cutie azz, too. Thanks for sharing this... So much fun. I think about changing my place up, too... but I am lazy and prone to work on other things. Maybe this winter when I am climbing the walls? I don't know what is happening with my work situation. We are supposed to return the 30th, but they didn't move us, the old cubes are not covid compliant, and we don't have a schedule of who is in the office when. I am not going back... until it is mandated. Period. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I've thought!
DeleteAlso, once it is in place, how transferable would it be? I have questions.
And I usually change some things and move things around a little. Especially during long rainy days. Winter is a good time to move furniture!
And I am going back in the Spring. We were just told about the new schedule. There's mask protocols and vaccine protocols and testing protocols and some people are losing their shit, of course.
XOXO
I can see it now, a neon sign in your garden apartment that says "Open For Business". LOL
ReplyDeleteDon't give me ideas!!
DeleteLMAOOOO
XOXO
I thought his first place was nice and didn't need any changes as far as I was concerned. But I won't argue with that lush crushed velvet banquette he put in. Even though it looks a bit like Indochine to me. I like neon too and would have one. I'm would say slut.
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteHis dining space is dreamy. That greenery-infused wallpaper can be a little too much but I love the plates that set it off and the way it divides the space.
And a giant neon sign that says SLUT?
Yes, please.
XOXO
Cool stuff. We have one Neon piece above our fireplace. A wall of Nieman's in the dining room. He's right, collectables will go up in value ---- and down in value. Just depends on the interest in the market.
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely should change some things out from storage. it livens things and freshens things to do that. We have a closet dedicated to art storage: paintings, sketches, posters, and such. Every once in a while we swap things out. It's kind of un, actually! XOXO
Oohhh love!
DeleteAnd I've heard people pay good money for collectibles. When Alvin talked about those spray cans that did double function I was nodding enthusiastically. It's a smart move.
And I think I'm going to go look for stuff to rotate around the house. Especially now that the weather is going to start to get colder and I won't be able to go out as much.
XOXO
That dining room is everything. I love every inch of it.
ReplyDeleteI love his style and I LOVE that neon sign.
I love the idea of removable wallpaper because I hate wallpaper and would love to change it on a whim. I am off to look for some now!
I think he did a fantastic job with the place.
DeleteI would have also had a dining room instead of an office. Duh.
And the idea of removable wallpaper is godsend! If you do use some wallpaper we need pics!!
XOXO
I’m with Upton, too lazy (and busy and cheap and lacking imagination) to change things out. But I do love what Alvin has done with the place. My only critique would be the shape of the dining room table; it leaves a dead space in the corner, though it does offer more room between diners.
ReplyDeleteXOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Heh. Well, I'd say you do have imagination.
DeleteMaybe it's just that it's too much of a chore? Also, familiarity.
And he did a great job with the place, that's for sure. I don't even mind that dead space in the corner...
XOXO
Surround yourself with things that make you feel happy
ReplyDeleteI know, right?
DeleteSuch a simple formula.
XOXO
The neon sign leaves me rather indifferent. Nice, but nothing more. I don't like him, on the other hand: too much beard!
ReplyDeleteI do like that neon sign, though.
DeleteI think it's fab.
And he's a riot!
XOXO
