NTS Kyiv Apartment Ukraine - 32sqm

I thought this apartment would be a perfect metaphor for the situation that Ukraine is currently living. This is what Ukraine is today. Not a whiff of what the Old Russia is: it's closer to what 'modern' would look compared to the stifling, colorless, homogenized underlying feeling of Vlad's idea of 'Russia' is.  If you have seen the effects Vlad's bombs have had in the vibrant modern cities in Ukraine, you may be on the same spot I was while watching this video of a beautiful neighborhood in Kyiv. I saw some pictures that showed the before and after of an apartment building after the Russians bombarded the city and I immediately had a flashback to this video.

I literally have a Poli-Sci 101 kind of knowledge of what is going on in Ukraine right now (I leave the heavy lifting to Infidel and Michael whom you can visit for a more nuanced analysis of the situation) and why Vlad wants it so bad, but I'm quite sure about a few things that really oversimplified would look like this:

  • Vlad declared war on Ukraine after months of people talking about it. It was the Chronicle of a War foretold. Agolf Twitler also set the stage for it, don't forget to blame him for this, too.
  • Vlad used the excuse of 'freeing' two rogue states to justify the war. It's in his playbook.
  • Vlad wants to return the Russian 'empire' to what he believes is its old glory. But you know there's more to that than this, of course.
  • When 15 newly independent republics emerged from the rubble that was the URSS, Russia ended up with 1/2 of the population the former united soviet union and an economy similar to Spain, a country minuscule compared with what Russia is now. POWND, bitch.
  • Vlad is afraid he won't be protected from NATO if the countries that now serve as a 'buffer' are not subdued by Moscow. Only bullies are afraid a bigger dog will show up in the playground.
  • Since 1991, many of the countries that were part of the Warsaw pact are now part of NATO.
  • Ukraine had remained neutral and Moscow wants it because Vlad fears NATO.
  • Russia has tons of oil and gas and they represent 30% of Russia's GDP. It's a petro-state. The only in Europe. And Vlad wants to keep it that way.
  • Ukraine could disrupt Russia's interactions with its oil customers in Europe. Russia built additional pipelines so they don't go through Ukraine, but Ukraine is not stupid.
  • Ukraine suddenly discovered natural gas. Vlad wants it because he doesn't want Ukraine becoming Europe's second Petro state. Greed, people. Greed.
  • When in 2014 Russia annexed Crimea by force (claiming historical legacy, yeah, Mexico wanna hear about the whole Southwest of the United States, Vlad). But it didn't really work well. Water is more valuable than a ruble, Vlad.
  • Vlad feels threatened by Ukraine and will never return Crimea. He needs it. If Ukraine joins NATO Vlad will see his dream of a powerful Russia die. And with it, his legacy. It's all about legacy with these strongmen.
  • Crimea is great strategically but it needs water. Climate change (and Ukraine cutting the water supply) means Vlad has to invest billions to keep Crimea functioning. Their lives are WORSE after Russia annexed them, duh. Not better.
  • Ukraine wants Crimea and if they both join NATO Vlad would be in trouble.
  • Russia is not a fertile country. Their birth rate is not great and the population has been shrinking more and more.  I think that's why they went all in with their anti-LGBTQ laws. If they make all the gays and lesbians procreate, Vlad thinks more babies will be made. Poor homophobic fool.
  • The potential pool of manpower for war is going to dry up, too. By occupying Crimea and by signaling to Ukraine that they're in danger, investors will be weary to put any money in Ukraine. Also, Ukraine is gonna put all of its money on military development 'cause Vlad is coming for them, duh.
  • Vlad has continuously stoked the idea of separatism in Ukraine by methods seen in America today (Cheeto was Vlad's asset in the government, put there by Russian interference with the elections) and for years has supported the separatist states. It's his 'divided we fall' strategy.
  • Vlad is, as I type this, in a protracted war with Ukraine. Sources say that he won't be able to keep the war going for one more week and that he never expected it to last this long. Russians realized he sent their young to a war he did not know he was going to win. It's estimated ten thousand Russian soldiers have died. Vlad says it's only four hundred. Who do you believe?
  • Vlad is pummeling main cities in Ukraine and Kyiv is one of the most important ones. I hope the city can take the attacks and is able to repeal Vlad's troops. Their president has evaded three assassination attempts. Resilient, both Ukraine and Zelinski.
  • Vlad's idea was probably to take the whole country by surprise so Ukraine could never used against Russia but he never counted in the resilience of the Ukranians or the outrage his war has awakened in the rest of the world. Sanctions are a bitch, Vlad.
  • The idea of 'reuniting' Russia in Vlad's power-drunk mind was going to be his legacy. Vlad is almost seventy, mind you. And like Xi, Little Kim, and his bargain-bin mini-me, Cheeto, 'legacy' is paramount for these strongmen. He wanted to be the last great Russian head of state and human lives are not going to get on the way of his dream. But he did not count on Ukraine's fierce resistance and the response of the world at large. He thought it was going to be like a slam-dunk like Georgia and Crimea.
  • And mark my words: Moldova is next if Vlad is not stopped. First he dismembered Georgia, now he is trying to invade Ukraine with the same excuses and strategy. He won't stop here, that bitter, pencil-dicked megalomaniac.
So that's my twenty cents in Basic Cliff Notes about the fuckery going on in Ukraine right now. And that's why I'm posted this apartment tour here. This apartment is a symbol of what Ukraine is today and it is what Vlad wants to stop. Nothing like progress and human well-being to get a tyrant on the move to kill them.

XOXO

P.S.: the people at Never Too Small wrote a note for this video:

The NTS team will be making a donation to the Red Cross. You can also help make a difference for people in Ukraine here - www.redcross.org.au/ukraine

This episode was filmed on February 12th 2022, 12 days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We have been asked by the designer of this apartment, Olga Bondar, and our NTS team in Kyiv to share the beauty of Ukrainian design in hope that it will bring further attention and support for the people of Ukraine and the inhumanity of their situation.

  1. What’s happening in Ukraine is criminal. We’ve seen the devastation that pencil dick has wrought and we are aching for the people of Ukraine. I can only hope for a swift end to this madness and a slow painful imprisonment for vlad.

    Glory to Ukraine 🇺🇦!

    1. I hope they judge Putin for war crimes.
His denying that he's attacking Ukraine may work inside Russia, but the world at large is watching. I really hope Ukraine never gives up and Vlad has to leave with his -tiny- tail between his legs.

  2. Population in Russia knows little about what is happening in Ukraine, because the news is censored. I believe that he does not at all calculate the peace marches either of the Russians or of other peoples. It's clear that Vlad wants a good part, if not all of Ukraine. He has an almost absolute power and can eliminate any internal rival. Or any person who barely disagrees with the thought of him. In my opinion, someone told him that he was about to make a wrong move, but surely Vald didn't listen to him.

    1. Absolutely.
It's a Fox News kind of situation where government-ruled communications is the only source of information for the people. Tragic. And Vlad wants Ukraine and everything he can get his grubby fingers on. Russia is weak and not the dream nation he wanted to leave as a legacy.
And you know what? I also think that his Yes Men did not dare contradict him because they fear him so much. And here we are.

  3. I went behind the Iron Curtain in '79. The USSR was dull and ugly - like I'm sure Russia is now. Putin has gone from Oligarch to full-on Dictator. His reasoning is full of holes, all BS. He now joins the list of truly despicable dictators: Hitler, Idi Amin, Kim Jung Un, Fidele Castro, Erdowan... While we're at it, we may as well add in the wannebes: the entire Trump family, McConnell, McCarthy, DeSantis, Tuckem, Ingraham, MTG, Boebert and the rest of the GQP minions. You are correct. If he succeeds in Ukraine, he will not stop there.
It's my hope that the Russian people will tire of it very, very soon. When they do, there will be high-ranking individuals among them and Putin will be taken down. Will that happen before Ukraine is no longer? Don't know. We can only hope. XOXO

    1. OMG really!
Everybody has told me that: Russia is dull and gray. And yes, he's now joining the list of all those despicable dictators that came before him. May his name live in infamy. I don't know how Putin will be taken down, but it may be because of money. Oligarchs in Russia are very fond of their money and they may be hurting with all these sanctions and their pariah label around the world.
My hope is that Ukraine outlasts him . And you have no idea how much I would like to see the Cheeto family and all its minions being put through the wringer.

  4. Don't forget that Putin is a microdick and that figures into his ideology as well.
Also, don't forget that while Zellenskyy is fighting to save his country and refuses to leave, Putin is safely ensconced in Moscow in his little boy suits having lunch.
Short answer: Vlad Putin is a little bitch and needs to be taken out.

    2. Vlad is indeed a little bitch and he needs to be taken down.
I cackled when I pictured him in his little boy suits. He's only 5'7"! I'm officially taller than Vlad! LMAOOO . That Napoleon complex is strong with this one.
Putin relies on strongman techniques -and his natural sociopathic instincts- to stay in power. Hope this is the last drop and the Russian people see the light.

  5. First, the apartment: I LOVE the kitchen! I would be very happy with a two burner stove top. I couldn't tell, but I'll bet the oven is smaller too, which would be a plus (for me). The sectional sofa was perfect in scale with the living area. The yellow accents made everything cheerful. I could be very happy there.

The war: It is no secret how I feel about Russians. They are so culturally different from us or most of the world for that matter. It is common (because of my other half's work) for us to be 'scanned' from Russia. Last month, my husband was even contacted by McAfee because of a scan through the dark web (what ever the hell that is). I think it all happened because of the pending war.

It is very heart breaking to see innocent people no matter what the culture, suffering. I worry about the LGBT folks who are there, and those who have fled. The Rainbow Underground is a good starting place if anyone would like to help the suffering and displaced gay folk.

    1. Isn't that apartment lovely?
They took an abandoned factory and transformed it into very cool apartments. I loved the colors and the super ingenious ways in which the space was used. I could also live there.
It's a hard to think that Vlad is trying to destroy all this progress and beauty, but I'm sure Ukrainians will rebuild.
And I cannot believe they would 'scan' you. So scary. the dark web is a very terrifying place. None of us would venture there. Most probably it did have to do with the war.
You know that LGBTQ folks would suffer incredibly under Putin. That's why I was so worried about Kirill last week...

  6. I have no patience and don't have time to waste. When and if this ends, I say Nato should hire snippers and killed the bastard. We have seen in the past these wacko leaders and dictators left go to long, the damage and killing they can and will do. Take him out now. Meanwhile our own fat fucking buffoon is STILL now incarcerated or shot. Yet he takes confidential files and top-secret documents form the white house and shreds them?????? HOW IS THIS NOT THE GROUNDS FOR Immediate arrest?????? I don't understand how he and other corrupt world leaders are getting away with this shit? And for so long. I'm over it.

I feel you, Maddie. But Vlad should be taken down by his own people. And judged by crimes against humanity. He needs to be humiliated and go down in history as an assassin. Same with the Fat Orange Buffoon. Ugh.
The time to take them down is overdue!

  7. My heart breaks when I think of the world shattered. The Ukraine was up and coming. They should have never remained neutral, but it was the orange ogre's diddling that helped set the stage for this. A vital, healthy country now going to crap. Why the need to pull them down to Russia's level of incompetence is beyond my ability to understand diddly. The world is not doing enough to crush and destroy Russia. I think it is the only way to deal with a bully... undermine them completely without physical altercation. Bullies are always stupid (look at the GOP) (look at Fox News.) The US and other countries hold in their grips the ability to total cripple Russia's economy but because of our dependence on oil, they are afraid to do so because poll numbers will go down, gas prices through the roof, and the GOP will be gloating all the way to the ballot boxes. What a crappy world. Thanks for sharing all this. Kizzes.

    1. The Ukraine had everything ready to succeed.
That is what Vlad could NOT take. His greedy, blood stained little fingers needed to try and grab the country before it was too late for Russia.
And you know Vlad was terrified of NATO having a clear shot at Russia. You are right: the best way to take down a bully is to undermine them without a physical confrontation. Hopefully the sanctions and the world's scorn work this time. You know the GOP is already blaming Uncle Joe for those gas prices while driving their gas guzzling vehicles.
      It is a crappy world.
