Oh, two parties..?

Here.

Because we very, very often talk about the ‘two-party-curse” on this blog thing here. I think this video could give us a better conversation starter for our next awkward family holiday get together with a Leftist (or heaven help you, a Libertarian) that likes Jill Stein for President. Or some nonsense like that.

XOXO

  1. I will have to watch the video once home, but I don't think the country will ever see a third successful party. And Jill Stein. I don't hate her, she has some good ideas, but I also don't agree with her on everything either. Of course, I don't agree with most politicians on everything....

Stein may have some good ideas, but her dinners with Putin and Mike Flynn, et al make her a firm not-on-your-life for me.

    2. Jill Stein is a spoiler and always has been. Her "good" ideas have one reason, to steal votes from a legitimate candidate.

    3. Jill Stein is a Russian Plant.
Literally. She comes out of her hole during elections, disrupts, goes back in. Repeats ever four years. Her 'good ideas' are usually far fetched and left wing in the worst way.
      Hate her.

  2. We have three main national political parties in Canada. The third party has never won an election or formed government, but it often holds the balance of power in a minority government situation. And since our third party is a democratic socialist party, that's a good thing.

    1. It IS a good thing!
Holding the balance of power is something missing here. The whole D/R option is poisonous at this point.

I don't do holidays with Repugs. I refuse to engage them at this point.

  4. Big says,
The Independents are actually a strong 3rd party and getting stronger. But I think that's really from people saying "I'm an independent," rather than registration. I wouldn't mind open primaries --- the Jungle Primary. But the ranked choice thing? No. Hate it, though the initiative passed in our last election and, if it wins a 2nd time, will become our system.

P.S. I-Dine With-Putin-and Flynn Stein can fuck all the way off.

    1. I think so too.
There really is not a well-formed third party here. It's kind of fringe Dems and some 'progressives'. A Jungle Primary, now, that would be good.

Stein is bought and paid by Vlad.

  5. We may end up with three or more parties because of Trump. The recent elections in which Democrats are seriously over performing indicate that the GOP is splintering away from the MAGA cultists. And what most people don't know, the Independent voters are the largest voting bloc in the United States. The Republicans are the smallest.

    1. That's something people have told me.
I think there's a branch of Dems that's fed up with the status quo of the party and other rising new stars. The GOP sold its soul to Cankles and now they're fucked. Forever poisoned by the corruption.

Independent votes need a good candidate.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
It’s been an uphill battle for third party and independent candidates. Though Bernie Sanders caucuses with Dems, he is an “Independent.” Except when it comes to primaries, I believe, where he runs as a Dem.

To be a poll worker in our county, you have to declare yourself as either a Dem or repug. During primaries, where you must declare a party, we sometimes have voters come in and want to vote independent. Unfortunately that’s not an option: you either declare, or don’t vote.

    1. That's what I've heard.
The Green Party and such. Bernie has great ideas but he's way too old to become more than an elder advisor.
I worry about your job as a poll worker sometimes. Especially now. And I have seen mail-in ballots and to request them you do need to declare if you are D or a R.

  7. A third party only seeks to hurt the Democratic party so I am leery of them.

Especially because a third party is usually a 'fraction' party. See: Jill Stein. They paint themselves as 'of the people' and are just syphoning voters from the Dems.
