So blogger sucks. Why? Because among other things, I keep getting these messages even though my blog IS behind a warning for readers, as you all know. And if you have been to the Pages side, you already know that it's very, very smutty. The thing is, if you don't click the disclaimer, you would not be able to read my posts. What that email tells me is that there is NO HUMAN behind this 'Blogger Team' email. Just AI or a crawler that identifies words like 'sex' or 'dick' or 'cum' or whatever they may have programmed it to identify (images also, because sometimes it's just a dick). But there is so much more that is wrong with Blogger, once one of the crown jewels of Google. But you know that the creator of Google sold it for an ungodly amount of money a while ago and now we are all fucked because of course any reasons he had to create it are long gone. Blogger lost its initial purpose whichever that may have been and it’s now a money grab.

There’s also many things that tell us that google does not give a shit about Blogger. The layouts are outdated, the capabilities are limited, there have been no updates in more than ten years, tech support is nonexistent, they will send you random ominous warnings, they tell you your blog needs to be behind a warning when your blog is ALREADY behind a warning, the reader for the blogs you follow is fucked up, the comments are a mess and the platform overall sucks. And that’s off the top of my head. I’m sure you could add one or three more.

Why, would you ask, is this happening? Well, I think I may have some answers. Not the answers we may want, but I may have some answers. Kind of baffling, though, shares of Google are high but they do not give a fuck about you as a Blogger user. They have ALL OF THE MONEY and they are as Scrooge-y as they can. And there may be several explanations for that. The simplest one? Here it is: Google has largely ignored Blogger since around 2011, focusing instead on other platforms like Google+ and its "My Business" initiative, which has raised concerns about the future of our beloved Blogger. This shift strongly suggests that Google may prioritize newer, trendier services over maintaining older ones like Blogger. Why? They give it more data/clout. In the age of AI everybody feels FOMO.

So there's that. There's also money, of course: for example, Wordpress and other platforms make much more money than Blogger, abut Wordpress is a prude cesspool of fuckery. They only like sanitized content: they found one dick in my Wordpress blog and they closed it. I don’t know if you remember I used to have a mirror blog there because Lurkie used to not be able to log on Blogger (my blog is an 'adult' blog) so I branched up there. They clutched their pearls and deleted my entry. Fuck them too. Blogger still lets us post smut, but I’m afraid it’ll go the way of Tumblr or Wordpress soon. They want tradewives blogging, not Queer men with a libido.

But yeah the thing is, as we all know, corporate greed: Wordpress can also monetize your blog better and it offers integration with e-commerce for millions of stores. It's made to make you (and Wordpress) money. Nothing like that happens here. Another of the reasons is  SEO, which means you have to dumb down your posts so Google can put you in a search engine (I don't monetize and I opted out of search engines, so fuck Google and their SEO). This is bad for us because even though we're not authors (except Big and Dave) Google will not put money on Blogger because, well, it's dumbed down for the crawlers (and AI) and we most times do not write our posts at a 5th grade level. So fuck our literacy.

So what happened? Many people were asking that same question. In September of 2023 Google started rolling out what it called its “Helpful Content Update“. The stated goal of this update to search results was to reduce the amount of spam and AI-generated crap that littered the internet. The actual result? The destruction of small publishers, blogs, and the Rise of Reddit. Traffic started falling. At first a dip, and then a plunge, and suddenly Just a Pack and a thousand other blogs lost 90% of their users. @justapack

So there's that. And there's also Google Zero (more fuckery):

Google Zero describes a situation where users get what they need directly from Google’s search results page and do not visit any external website. The user still searches. The query still exists. Your content may even appear somewhere on the page. But if the answer is already summarized in the search results, the click may never happen.

For blog owners, this is a major shift.

If users do not click, there is no pageview. No ad impression. No internal link visit. No newsletter signup. No product conversion. The search happened, but the website did not receive the traffic.That is why Google Zero has become such a sensitive topic among publishers and bloggers. @devdepository

And this is bullshit, because even though I have just a few faithful readers, this blog thing here gets hit on more than a twenty five year old wrestler in a jockstrap at a gay bar. So now you know. We may be fucked because we use Blogger for what it was intended from the jump: Blogs were created as pages to express our opinions, likes, dislikes, experiences and observations in a Diary-style format. Now everything is about money. Everything is about mining our personal information for the benefit of the corporate overlords. So we may be SOL. 

Here’s my two cents: FUCK GOOGLE. 

Let's see if Google Zero picks that one up and decides this blog is not worth a click.
